Teen sexual activity varies according to contextual factors – such as the normal behaviour in a certain culture, at a particular time. In 1999, most U.S. adolescents 15 and under have not had sexual intercourse. The likelihood of teenagers having sexual intercourse increases steadily with age. Over half of 17-year olds have had sex. A great deal of behaviour associated with sex is learned from observation and practice. Motives for Initiating Sex: 1) Sexual arousal causes them to seek out sex with a partner. This occurs more for males than females. 2) Curiosity causes most boys to seek out sexual activity. This not the case for girls. 3) Affection is the reason most girls initiate sexual intercourse.
