Educational Psychology – The Study of Learning

What is educational psychology?
     It could be said that the educational psychology is the study of learners (students), of the process of learning and of teaching. It is the study of what makes a good teacher, the role of research in education, effective program development, development, theories of learning, the diversity of students, motivation and learning environments.

Research in Educational Psychology:
     The role of research in educational psychology is to carefully examine certain questions about factors that may contribute to learning. For example, a research study may examine what type of teaching method works best, and what decision a teacher may make about a problem or issue, to be most successful. Various teaching programs and theories of how to teach are also examined.

Technology in the classroom:
     Computers used in the classroom are becoming a common strategy – especially when meeting the diverse needs of students. In a way the computer works as a tutor to present information, give students practise, assess their level of understanding and provide more instruction if needed. The question here is how effectively can computers teach? Most research done on this topic concludes that it has small to moderate positive effects on achievement. It is effective when used in addition to regular classroom instruction and has less effective results when it entirely replaces classroom instruction.
